The Infrastructure Optimization Model is an organizational paradigm and metric for IT practices.  You can take an assessment that will categorize your IT group as either “Basic, Standard, Rationalized, or Dynamic”.   A Basic IT group is one that is more REACTIVE and “fights fires” whereas a Rationalized\Dynamic group enables business and relies on automation.  Such paradigms can be useful when you want to compare IT services and when you are considering an investment in automation.
