Windows 7 no longer includes an option to revert to the old days- back when START actually said START and the desktops sat on your desk slantwise, FDD ready and able.  Never fear!  Techrepublic has a review on a freeware tool that allows you to travel back in time.  Mind you, your FDD doesn’t return and START still looks like a marble, but hey, you get the single-channel menus with Run and NO INSTANT SEARCH.   I’m not sure why anyone would ever do this — maybe there are some who are pining away for the Up button in Explorer.  Anyway,  here’s the post

BONUS: And here’s a link to restore the Quick Launch function to Windows 7!

A colleague of mine experienced a blue screen today while working with XP & W7 images.  Laptops (Dell Latitude E5500) came back from a class and apparently one of our customers decided to enable the AHCI setting in the BIOS on one machine.   However, because our image was installed without this driver enabled,  the laptop would blue screen no matter what image or drive we used.   He eventually sorted it out (I wasn’t much help).  If you want to learn more about AHCI you can read about it here and you can read about our problem and solution here and here.

If you want to understand the reasoning behind seven, check out some of the interviews on this blog with a who’s who of windows technologists.

Then when you’re done with this, tell Milo to get his homework done!  (OMG!!) (PS. start at the 1 minute mark)
